Clearing codes is not diagnosis
A check engine light can point toward a system, but it does not automatically identify the failed part. Clearing a code is not diagnosis. Misfires, fuel trim faults, oxygen sensor codes, EVAP faults, boost issues, and emissions readiness problems all need context, test data, and verification.
What we check
We review fault codes, freeze-frame data, live scan data, readiness monitor status, service history, and the symptom the driver is actually experiencing. Then we test the system so the recommendation is based on evidence.
- Misfires, rough running, hesitation, reduced power, and drivability concerns.
- Emissions readiness, EVAP, fuel trim, sensor, boost, and catalyst-related faults.
- Platform-specific diagnostics with Autel equipment plus ODIS, VCDS, PIWIS, or other tools where applicable.
Our diagnostic process
We start with the complaint, scan the vehicle, identify the conditions that set the fault, and follow a test path. Fault codes point us toward what needs to be tested; they do not replace the test. That may include visual inspection, smoke or leak testing, electrical testing, road testing, readiness review, or AWD Dynojet validation when drivability needs measured results.
Why this matters for inspection and emissions
A check engine light or incomplete readiness monitors can affect PA emissions. Clearing the light right before inspection usually does not solve the underlying problem. We help determine why the fault set and what repair path makes sense.
